The use of filters in the photography process, which will allow you to filter out the perfect shot

Photoshop has played a major role in shaping modern photography. Sometimes, however, nothing beats the results of shooting in-camera, and if you want to shoot outside, one way to make it easier is to use filters.There are hundreds if not thousands of filter styles, but usually only 6 are used, each with a different effect. For a filter novice, this vast selection can be daunting, and that's not even considering the variety of shapes, sizes, and fittings that come with each filter.

There are two main approaches to filter holders:Screw-on filters are circular and, as the name suggests, they screw directly into the front edge of the lens. However, not all lenses are the same size, so when shopping for a screw-on filter, you'll want to check which filter size you need. The filter size is printed on the front edge of each lens, usually between 52mm and 97mm, but be sure to check all lenses - if you want to use the same type of filter, you will need to buy filters to match what you have Lenses of various sizes.The filter holder is another major option, which is a more versatile option. The holder has the advantage of being able to take multiple filters at once, and you only need to buy one size filter.

To use the filter holder system, a conversion ring is first required. It mounts on the lens like a screw-on filter and provides a mount for the filter holder. As with screw-on filters, you'll need a different size conversion ring for each size lens you'll use the filter with. With the adapter ring in place, you can install the filter holder. The two main manufacturers -- Cokin and Lee -- have several models, each designed for use with lenses of a certain focal length. For example, Cokin's A-series is designed for lenses up to 35mm, while the Z-Pro series is designed for lenses as wide as 20mm. Once the filter holder is in place, simply insert the rectangular or square filter. Some brackets use finger-tight screws to hold the filter in place.
